Overview
Digestive enzymes are protein-based substance that helps aid in digestion. Digestive enzymes break down food by breaking apart the bonds that hold food nutrients together. When food is broken down and digested properly, the body can fully utilize and absorb the nutrients for maximum nutrient intake and energy. Alpha-Amylases and papain are the digestive enzymes. Liquid are given to infants for curing constipation, pain, gas, post - feed abdominal distension and related problems. This syrup helps to pass gas and stool. It is absolutely safe to give to infants. Alpha Amylase: Alpha-amylase, an aspergillus species derived enzymatic preparation, is prescribed to facilitate digestive process of starch particles and to improve uptake of nutrients in food substance. Papain: Papain is a proteolytic enzyme preparationderived from fruits of papaya. It may contain lactose or dextrin. papain consists chiefly of a mixture of papain and chymopapain, proteolytic enzymes that hydrolyse polypeptides, amides, and esters, especially at bonds involving basic amino acids, or leucine or glycine, yielding peptides weight. It is used for the inflamation of soft tissue.

Pharmacology
Mechanism of action
Alpha-amylase is an amylolytic enzyme. It breaks down starch and polysaccharides by attacking the α-1,4-glucosidic linkage at random, yielding dextrins, oligosaccharides and monosaccharides. Papain is a proteolytic enzyme prepared from unripe fruit of Carica papaya. At body temperature, papain is active over a wide range of pH (pH 5-9). Papain consists of papain and chymopapain which hydrolyses proteins, polypeptides, especially bonds involving basic amino acids or leucine or glycine, yielding peptides.Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to α-amylase or papain acute pancreatitis
Chronic diseases of pancreas.
